The following links will give an output of different listings of place names from KNAB, the Place Names Database of the Institute of Estonian Language. Search results will open in a new window. The administrative division is as of January 2006, after the new amalgamations of administrative units.

Populated places
If only the name of a municipality is given in the list below, this would mean that the municipality
consists of only one populated place with the same name - either a *town (linn) or a **borough
(alev). The statistics reflects the number of populated places within rural municipalities; excluded
are towns (cities) that constitute separate self-governing urban municipalities. As of 2006-01-01 there are 33
urban municipalities, or towns in Estonia, the number of non-self-governing (or unincorporated) towns
(vallasisene linn) is 14. There are 10 boroughs (alev), 174 small boroughs
(alevik) and 4433 villages (küla); altogether there are 4631 populated places within rural
municipalities.
