AREAS OF RESEARCH
The objective of the research project is to
(1) give a thorough theoretical elaboration of the concept of mimesis and work out
a methodological framework that is both original and appropriate for this research topic.
(2) analyze:
– the rhetoric of mimesis, with the focus on what is represented (the representation of fiction vs. the representation of reality; documental text) and how it is represented;
– the relations between Estonian textual culture and its synchronous currents of thought;
– the logic of the development of Estonian textual culture in relation to developments in sociopolitical processes;
– the aesthetic experience of environment and the everyday phenomenology.
The research project is supported by three subprojects:
– In co-operation with the Institute of Art History of the Estonian Academy of Arts,
the research group organizes an international conference series "Koht ja paik/Place
and Location" and publishes article collections by the same title.
– The collected volume "Twentieth Century Movements of Thought" (editor in chief
Epp Annus). The volume was published in summer 2009.
– Research grant "Participatory Culture in Cyberspace: Literature and its Borders"
(2008–2011, principial researcher Piret Viires).
